Most recently, the winery Kloster Ebernach was included in two prestigious wine and pleasure guides 2022. The falstaff wine guide, known beyond the country's borders, has given us one star and some of our wines the highest ratings. Also the esteemed Wine guide "Eichelmann Germany's wines" presents us 2022 with one star as "Above average winery".

We were awarded again!

Our Riesling dry was rated 81 points by Eichelmann and awarded GOLD by Gilbert & Gaillard! Also our rootless Alte Rebe – Old Vines could convince the jury of the 25th Berlin Wine Trophy, “probably the biggest Riesling competition in the world” and reached GOLD. Eichelmann awards it 85 points and Falstaff even 90+. Meininger’s Best of Riesling awards 89 points.

We present our new artist "EDITION ATELIER 21

The genesis of the "EDITION ATELIER

The institution Ebernach Monastery offers its residents day-structuring activities, including the “Expression” artist’s studio. In the studio, artists are given space, time and materials to develop their creative skills in the visual arts during their free time. No pedagogical or therapeutic objectives are pursued or guidelines are given, but the free independent creation should convey joy, form community and encourage new things.

"Limited collectibles. When art and wine connect"

We are impressed by the work of the Ebernach Monastery and how the Franciscans of the Holy Cross have mastered all tasks in their long history. We are enthusiastic about the work of the residents and artists and that is why we have agreed on a unique cooperation. Selected and exceptional wines, reflecting the full potential of our steep slope vineyards, are endowed with a special work of art. Art connects and the pictures reflect the joy of life of the artists and your boundless creativity. Here you can see our first selection “Edition Atelier” from 2021.

We were awarded with the falstaff Kabinett Trophy 2021

Two of our Prädikat wines were awarded by falstaff 2021. Once from the monopoly Sonnenberg site, which is in our exclusive possession, and a wine from the famous Pomeranian Sundial.

Our winners of Meininger’s Best of Riesling 2021

At this year’s international Best of Riesling competition, the “probably biggest Riesling tasting in the world”, no less than four of our wines won. We are pleased to present them to you:

Bottled!

The 2020 vintage is here

In mid-March, people and machines were running at full speed so that the new wine could be bottled…

We are totally out of the loop! We were allowed to bottle, label, pack and prepare everything for you to enjoy our 2020 vintage at home. We are very enthusiastic about the bottles, the labels – and of course especially about the wine! Newly added are our wines from Pomerania. Sundial and Goldberg – vineyards included in the Grand Cru classification.

Let us convince you too and order directly in our online wine store…

The new wines will be offered from the end of May.

Rain of points! Successes at the LagenCup White 2020

Every year at the LagenCup, numerous sommeliers, wine merchants and wine journalists award the best wines of the Federal Republic – with a special focus: “At the LagenCup, as the name suggests, the wines must come from a specific and clearly defined vineyard site.”

We have a lot on offer that meets this requirement – and we are delighted that four of our wines were successful in Berlin! Three times 90 and once even 91 points are a result that can be seen… We are particularly pleased that the Pinot Blanc Klostergarten is one of the excellent wines – our first wine in barrique, which became scarce in the warehouse… and the Riesling Kabinett dry from the Sonnenberg is unfortunately already completely sold out – the other three wines are of course in the store!

Exhausting but worth the effort - you can smell and taste it

Grape harvest 2020: many hands, quick end!

Grape harvest – this is possible year after year in our steep slopes on the Moselle only with the help of many friends who patiently stand by us. When the harvester comes along and does the work that takes us hours by hand in just a few minutes, we enjoy watching it, too. But unfortunately, that only works in the flat vineyard – instead, we enjoy the best weather and the best view while reading high above the Moselle!

Berlin Wine Trophy: Three times GOLD!

Three of our Rieslings were awarded gold at the 24th Berlin Wine Trophy! Every year, the “world’s largest international OIV wine competition” awards prizes to the best wines from over 13,600 entries from 40 countries.

We are proud of this award and say thank you to the organizers of the competition. Convince yourself of the excellent taste: all three wines are of course available in the online store and at our winery…

Open rehearsal of Swing UniT in our courtyard

On Saturday, July 25, 2020, we had very special guests in the courtyard of our winery: Swing UniT, the big band of the University of Trier! The young musicians treated the audience to groovy sounds and great tunes at their open rehearsal. And the musical rehearsal was followed – of course – by a wine tasting!

Thank you, dear Swing UniT, for being there. Come and visit us again, with or without instruments!

Best of Riesling: Excellent wines

“Best of Riesling 2020, probably the biggest international Riesling competition in the world…” – and we are there!

On Thursday, June 18, in Neustadt an der Weinstraße, under the patronage of Dr. Volker Wissing, Minister of Economics, Transport, Agriculture and Viticulture of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate, the best Rieslings from all the major growing regions of the world were selected. Our 2019 Cochemer Sonnenberg (Riesling Kabinett trocken) and our 2019 Cochemer Bischofsstuhl (Riesling Spätlese) were awarded in the competition. The Bishop’s Chair convinced in the overall impression especially by its harmony, the Sonnenberg could inspire with its floral acidity.

You can find both wines in our store, of course – now also with the detailed rating and description by “Best of Riesling”!

The bell tower of Ebernach Monastery - a sign of our winery visible from afar

Entrepreneur portrait of the VG Cochem

The municipality introduces us on its website

“A Mosel winery with a 350-year history meets a 13th generation winemaking family from Valwig. The Zenzen brothers learned the craft in their childhood and have a wealth of experience in making
and marketing of wines built. Her accumulated practical knowledge has been flowing into the traditional winery from Cochem-Sehl since the beginning of the year…”

Vintage - the fruits of our labor...

From the end of September there was a lot going on in our vineyards…

With many helping hands, a lot of time and energy & of course also with technical help, we were able to get all our grapes into the dry in time. We all had a lot of fun in the vineyard, because with great helpers and a great view, the work is much easier to do. A special highlight for us was also the visit of the full harvester. But see for yourself!

Winery Kloster Ebernach under new management

“Already at the turn of the year, the brothers Dr. Peter-Josef Zenzen and Heinz-Rudolf Zenzen from Valwig took over the vineyard Kloster Ebernach in Cochem-Sehl. Together with the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross, the continued existence of the traditional steep slope vineyard could thus be secured by a long-term lease agreement…”
